October 21 Wanting to get married“I have reached my forties and am not married, and I praise Allaah for everything that He has decreed for me. At first I felt sad and upset whenever I was alone, and I regretted my misfortune every time one of my friends got married. I did not have any conditions or specific characteristics in the man I wanted to marry; I was prepared to accept any righteous man. But years went by without this man coming to me. I began to withdraw from people so that I would not see their looks of pity but I could not escape them completely, because I would see them in the eyes of my parents and siblings who would pray for me every time they saw me. One day at the end of Sha’baan, as we were preparing for the blessed month of Ramadaan, Allaah guided me to keep a Mus-haf just for myself. I decided to read the whole Qur’aan and I found it very difficult to read it because I had stopped reading for the last ten years. I also found it difficult to understand some verses, so I bought a book of Tafseer (commentary) and I started to read it so that I could understand the verses of Qur'aan that I was reading. Ramadaan ended but my attachment to the Book of Allaah did not stop; I carried on reading the verses of Allaah and reading the commentary thereon. “Then came the day when I read the verse in Soorat al-Kahf (interpretation of the meaning): Wealth and children are the adornment of the life of this world. But the good righteous deeds that last, are better with your Lord for rewards and better in respect of hope [al-Kahf 18:46]. I wondered, what does the good righteous deeds that last’ mean? I found in the Tafseer that it refers to all righteous deeds.
“I fell in love with righteous deeds such as prayer, fasting,
charity, tasbeeh, tahmeed, tahleel and takbeer. Happiness began to fill my
heart and I became content. I praised Allaah greatly for guiding me to this
path and teaching me these things.” Sister Umm Yamaan adds: “But this is not a call for monasticism, rather it is a call to accept the will and decree of Allaah.”September 08 FriendshipFriendship The meaning of friend :
People think to become friends or to stay good friends you have to do the similar, or believe in the similar things that I mentioned above. For me friendship is not about how many times you see them or doing the same things, and even if did have similar interest or did the same things it wouldnt mean that I will be friends with them for life. For me friendship comes from Allah, without him do you think your friendship will last forever, Why is it brotherhood so strong in Islam and not in other religions, nations or societies. Its because it is Allah who bonds us together and puts that love in our hearts. Yet, there are some Muslims in this world who don’t believe in the brotherhood or friendship at all. They say you can’t have friends because they will always betray you or might leave you, this is only because they base their friendship on culture or something else instead of Allah. Some think the only friendship you can get is your family, which I think is totally wrong, because why is it we hear people saying ‘Oh!! my daughter/son left home’ or ‘My child doesn’t speak to me no more’
Abu Bakr and the prophet (saw) were friends before Islam, but what really made them bond was Islam The message of Islam made the people of Mecca very angry. The idols were their gods. The holy prophet openly mocked at these gods. He declared they could do neither any good nor harm. Among the chiefs of Mecca was one Abu Jahl. He became the greatest enemy of the holy prophet. He was always on the lookout to hurt him or even kill him, if he could. Abu bakr kept an eye on this man, least he should do a grave harm to Islam. One day the holy Prophet (p.b.u.h) was saying his prayers in the kabah. He was totally lost in the thoughts of Allah. Abu Jahl and some other chiefs of Mecca were sitting in the courtyard of the kabah. ‘I must finish of Muhammad today.’ Said Abu Jahl. So he took a long piece of cloth. He put it around the holy prophet’s neck. Then he twisted it hard. He was going to strangle the messenger of Allah to death. The other chiefs looked and laughed. Abu bakr happened to see this from the distance. He at once ran to the help of the Prophet. He pushed Abu Jahl aside and took of the cloth off around the prophet’s neck. Thereupon Abu Jahl and the other enemies of Islam came down on Abu Bakr . They beat him very much. Indeed, so severe that Abu Bakr fell to the ground senseless. He was carried home. He could not regain his senses till several hours. when Abu Bakr (r.a) did come to himself, the first question he asked was, ‘is the prophet un-hurt? Abu bakr didn’t care for his own suffering. He was glad that he could save the prophets life. Abu Bakr knew full well that if any harm came to the prophet, the only hope to mankind would be gone. This made him risk everything he held dear for. From this we can see that the bond he had with the Prophet was so strong because of Allah, and we knew whatever the Prophet used to say wasn’t from his own desire but from Allah. So our beloved Prophet said “whatever you love for yourself, love for your brother” For example if a close friend of mine saw me being disrespectful towards my parents, I personally would expect her to say something, not just sit there saying nothing. I mean how could you sit there and ignore that your friend is doing something wrong and not say anything. Would you watch your friend get stabbed and not do anything? So how about the hellfire??? So how could you expect to have a good relationship or a close friendship with your friend when you put Allah second, therefore you should expect your friendship to fall apart. All the companions used advise each other and weren’t afraid of it, they just wanted the best for their friend and that was jannah. The prophet (saw) also said we should always find excuses for our brothers, meaning that we shouldn’t jump to conclusion. Like, if we haven’t heard from our friend for a long time we should start thinking ‘she/ he can’t be bothered’ or if they don’t come out ‘they rather stay at home than spend time with me’. Rather these are the whispering of the shaytaan instead we should say ‘may be something has happen’ or ‘they may have a problem at home’.
As Long as we base our friendship on Allah we will never go wrong as we have all the solution, and when you start thinking this way, you realize your friendship is a blessing from Allah and so you start thanking him every day for giving you a friend who helps you with your deen, your life and your closeness to Allah tala. Your friends make you who you are, so choose wisely July 24 Be paitentAl-Ghazali said, "If you see Allah, Mighty and Magnificent, holding back this world from you, frequently trying you with adversity and tribulation, know that you hold a great status with Him. Know that He is dealing with you as He does with His Awliya' and chosen elite, and is watching over you, have you not heard His saying, "So wait steadfastly for the judgment of your Lord - you are certainly before Our eyes. {At-Tur 52:48} May 15 Climbing the MountainI look ahead and I know you are up those mountains But which one only you can guide me You show me the way, and so I start climbing So far my journey seems to be easy I’m half way up the mountain Finding it hard to find my step So you send down someone to help me I know the climb is worth my life, Because you were the one I’ve been longing for And when I reach the top I break down into tears Knowing my life is complete Seeing your face My Rabb March 28 Truth Vs Falsehood, which one do you follow????Life on Earth
“Read, In the Name of your Lord who Created,
Created man from clots of blood.
Read, and your Lord is Most Generous, he who taught by the pen, taught men what he did not know.
No Indeed! Truly man is ungrateful, seeing himself as self sufficient.
Truly it is to your Lord that you will return”
(Quran 96:1-8)
This is the first verse was revealed to Muhammad (pbuh). Here God draws our attention to the clot of blood, that we were once inside our mother’s womb and who has given us intellect when we entered this big world. However some people wish to ignore the truth about life and the hereafter, and would rather follow falsehood because they feel is to much of a burden to carry. God says to us in the Quran:
Those who disbelieve say ‘the hour will not come’Say ‘yes by my Lord it will certainly will come’ He is the knower of the unseen, whom not even the weight of the smallest particle eluders either in the heavens or in the earth, nor is there anything smaller or larger than that which is not in a clear book. This is so that he may recompense those who have faith and do right action. They will have forgiveness and generous provision. But those who strive against our signs, trying to nullify them, will have a punishment of agonising pain. (Quran 34:3-5) Therefore we should arrive to the truth about life, God, and our existence and should not be afraid of change, as so many people feel so secure in their lives that they don't want to change as they THINK it will mess up their lives. However we must face reality and be true to our self and our soul. And use the intellect that God has blessed us with. Don't we all deserve to hear the truth. Islam and ChristianityAfter the creation of Adam (pbuh), just one original message has been repeatedly delivered to mankind throughout the history of humanity. Thus, to remind people about it and bringing them back on track, many prophets and messengers including Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad (pbut) were sent by God to convey this message.
‘The true God is only ONE worship him alone and keep his commandments’
That’s all they said regardless who they came to, what language they spoke, and what time they came. That’s all they said. None of them said ‘I AM GOD WORSHIP ME’ not even Jesus (pbuh) said this in his OWN words not even in the bible.
Jesus (pbuh) bowed down and worship God himself as we are told in the bible it self:
"Going a little further, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed....(From the NIV Bible, Matthew 16:39)"
If we go back to Abraham we can see that he only worshipped one God and never associated partners with God.
‘Abraham was neither a Jew nor a Christian. But a man of pure belief—a *Muslim. He never joined other partners with God.’ (Quran 3:67)
‘..Or were you present when death came to Jacob and he said to his sons, ‘what will you worship when I have gone?’ they said ‘we will worship your God, the God of your forefathers, Abraham, Isma’il and Isaac - One God we are Muslims submitted to Him’. (Quran 2:133)
Also god has told us in the Quran Adam (pbuh) was born without a mother and father just as similar as Jesus who was born without a father. If God wanted his servant to become pregnant all he needs to say is ’be’ and it is. Just like Zechariah’s wife when she got pregnant at a very old age.
‘He said, ‘My Lord, how can I possibly have a son when I have reached old age and my wife is barren?’ He said, ‘it will be so. God does whatever he wills.’ (Quran 3:40)
Jesus’ creation is a miracle in itself, but it is not the only of its kind. Jesus (pbuh) was created from only female, without a biological father. Adam, the ancestor of all mankind, was created from neither male or female by the sheer command of God. Eve, Adam's wife, was created from only the male, without biological mother. With the rest of the humans originating from both a male and a female through normal procreation, we thus have four distinct types of creation.
‘The likeness of Jesus is the likeness of Adam, he created him from dust and he was.’ (Quran 3:59)
Muslim believe that Jesus (pbuh) was no more than a prophet and was just sent to the people of Israel and not for the world. Before he was raised up to God he told his people that a man will come after him named the ‘praised one’ (Muhammad) who will follow the same words that Jesus (pbuh) conveyed and that he will not speak of his own desires but confirm about him (Jesus) and so we find in the Quran there is a whole chapter devoted to Mary, the mother of Jesus telling us the miraculous birth of Jesus (pbuh) and his life. This is how we Muslim know about the life of Jesus (pbuh) and his blessed mother through Muhammad (pbuh). How did Muhammad (pbuh) know about Jesus, when he never spoke to him, but was surrounded by pagans at his time.
Muslim don't worship Jesus nor Muhammad (pbut), but we say Jesus is a great prophet, and mention a comforter will come after him, and bring down a book that will stay the same without a changing of a dot. Also it will stay with the world forever. In Islam we are told by God that he is ONLY one without any partners:
‘Say ‘He is God, absolute Oneness, God, the Everlasting Sustainer of all. He has not given birth and was not born. And no one is comparable to Him.’ (Quran 112)
So Muslim should never join anything with him, not even the prophets, because if man does join things with God they break that connection with him therefore goes in to utter falsehood and into darkness.
‘Those who say that God is the third of three are rejecters There is no God but One Gods. If they do not stop saying what they say, agonizing chastisement will afflict those among them who are rejecters.’ (Quran 5:73)
This is were man keeps going astray by adding false gods to the One True God, this has been done many times in the past generation. When Moses brought down the 10 commandments not to join idols with God but some of his people did and made a calf. Abraham told his father to stop worshipping idols as they cant harm or benefit anyone and because of Abraham rejection they threw him in the fire. And when Noah was sent to his people to worship One God and not the idols, they mocked and laughed at him And went astray.
Life after DeathGod has told us in the Quran that this life is like a flower that grows in the ground, it gets watered from the rain, and then it blossoms, it has a nice fragrance and looks beautiful. But then it only last for a month or less, and then Suddenly it starts to wither away and you have no more attention towards it as if it never existed before, and becomes soil and dirt again. ‘Do you not see that God sends down water from the sky and threads it through the earth to emerge as springs and then by it brings forth crops of varying colours, which then wither and you see them turning yellow and then He makes it dry up and crumble away. There is a reminder in that people of intelligence.’ (Quran 39:21) Yet in this world we see people are being deceived by all the fortune in this world. Racing each other to money, status and possessions. Nevertheless death is on our doorstep, we don't even realise it. We will all have to leave this world if we accept it or not , and we cant expect that this is the end, because That would mean everything we have done in this world was meaningless. Everything we have done, the working day and night, raising a family, getting an education was for nothing. Every cause has an effect. However there are some people who don't believe in the hereafter and regard life on earth as the only life and nothing destroys them except time. God tell us in the Quran:
‘They say: There is nothing but our present life, we die, and we live, and nothing but time destroys us. Of that they have no knowledge, they merely conjecture. And when our revelations are recited to them, their only argument is that they say: Bring our forefathers, if you speak truly’ (Quran 45:24)
But God has told us that every soul will be given full reward of what they did on this earth, whether if you have followed the Truth or rejected it. So you will either go to heaven or hell. ‘every soul will die, and you will only be given your (full) reward on the day of judgment. So he who is drawn away from hellfire and admitted to paradise is the one who has succeeded.’ (Quran 3:185)
This life you have been given is a responsibility and therefore you will be ask what you did with gift in this world. So we should really sincerely think about life and decided where we want to end up in. A person who believes in the hereafter would look upon all worldly gains and loses as temporary and would not put at stake eternal bliss for a transitory gain. Belief in the next world instills in one the desire to do well and avoid the wrong, however costly it may be in terms of worldly sacrifice
*Muslim - someone who submits to One God. (pbuh) = Peace be upon him
February 20 Being Honest 'A GIFT from ALLAH'Narrated Hudhaifa: Allah's Apostle said to us, "honesty descended from the Heavens and settled in
the roots of the hearts of men (faithful believers), and then the Quran was
revealed and the people read the Quran, (and learnt it from it) and also learnt
it from the Sunna." Both Quran and Sunna strengthened their (the faithful
believers') honesty. February 10 The story of Thatlabah (ra). The Mercy of Allah regards to ForivenessThis is another story of a companion of the prophet (sallallahu alaiyhi wa sallam). A young boy, at the age about 16 or 17, his name was Thatlabah (ra). Thatlabah (ra) was one of the active youth in the time of the prophet (sallallahu alaiyhi wa sallam), who obeyed the messenger (sallallahu alaiyhi wa sallam) and his heart was firm in the belief of the Quran and he was completely convinced in the existence of Allah and he anticipated and sacrifice everything to reach Jannah. The Prophet (sallallahu alaiyhi wa sallam) once sent Thatlabah on a errand (meaning he sent him to do something) and Thatlabah went, it would have only have taken him half a day to complete this errand, when on his way Thatlabah was going back to the prophet (sallallahu alaiyhi wa sallam). When he reached close to medina he was passing by a small village which was build of small tents, and then he heard one of the tents, as though there was water was being spilled inside, like a shower, as though there was someone was bathing inside it. Thatlabah did not have the right to open the tent and looked who was inside it, however his lust, hormones played up a bit at that time, and the shaytan deluded him into opening a tiny crack in that tent. And he looked in side and accidentally to his shock, saw a naked women bathing. As his temptation, lust and hormones began to rise he remembered Allah subhana wata alla. And then he closed the tent and he yelled so loud that he said ‘What have a done! La illah illallah. Allah will now send a verse to the prophet (sallallahu alaiyhi wa sallam) saying I am one of the hypocrites. How could I worship Allah and then look at a naked woman in her tent. How can I say I am a mumin. Allah will surely say I am one of the hypocrites, yes he will, yes he will.’ And he forgot all about returning to the prophet (sallallahu alaiyhi wa sallam) he was to scared, he did not want to hear anything, almost certain that there was a verse sent down in the name of Thatlabah he is a munafiq (hypocrite). So instead of going to the prophet (sallallahu alaiyhi wa sallam) he run away and he headed towards the cliffs and he stayed up there. When he didn’t returned back to the prophet (sallallahu alaiyhi wa sallam) began to get worried and he said ‘Where is Thatlabah? I hope nothing has happen to him’. The next day came and Thatlabah hadn’t returned so the prophet (sallallahu alaiyhi wa sallam) sent his companions to look for him, and then they went and they tried and returned and said ‘O messenger of Allah we don’t know where he his.’ And they kept the search going for about a week. Until finally the prophet (sallallahu alaiyhi wa sallam) sent Abu Bakr and Umar (ra) for a special task to look for him and find him. He said ‘go and look out to the outcast of medina, in the cliffs and the hills, in the forest and the trees, search every tent, ask anyone you see and search for Thatlabah. For I am very worried about Thatlabah.’ And so they went out and it took them weeks to search for him, then finally they approach this village were they found this Shepard with his goats and they approached him and said ‘Have you seen a young man? His descriptions are so and so, he is of this height and his name is Thatlabah’. The Shepard replied back ‘are you talking about the crying boy?’ They replied ‘what crying boy?’ so the Shepard replied back saying ‘there is a young boy who sits up in those cliffs over there, our village hears him every night crying and we don’t know what his matter is. Everyday he comes down and he drinks a bit of milk from my goats and then he would drag him self back to the mountains.’ Abu Bakr and Umar to their sadness replied ‘Surely this is Thatlabah’. So Abu Bakr and Umar (ra) went up to the mountains and they searched for him until they found him, sheltered away under leaves, his clothes were torned apart, he was withered away and so skinny, there was a disease in his skin and he was extremely sick. Abu Bakr and Umar (ra) thought he was dying and so then they crabbed him. As soon as Thatlabah saw them, as if the Angel of Death came to him. He tried to struggle and run away but the chased him and caught him, and they crabbed him. Thatlabah replied in fright ‘Please! Please! Don’t take me to the prophet (saw), don’t take me to him, don’t take me to him I’m too scared.’ They press down on Thatlabah, and said to him ‘What’s wrong with you! Take hold of your self Ya Thatlabah.’ He replied in fear ‘Please don’t take me to him, I know why you are taking me to him, Allah has sent down a verse concerning me hasn’t he! Hasn’t he!’ they replied calmly ‘We don’t know why the prophet (sallallahu alaiyhi wa sallam) is asking for you, Please come with us. Wallahi we have to take you with us it’s a commandment of the prophet.’ And so they dragged him on his feet towards the prophet (sallallahu alaiyhi wa sallam). They placed Thatlabah at his house and told the prophet (sallallahu alaiyhi wa sallam) that he was at his home. The prophet (sallallahu alaiyhi wa sallam) came to him and he kneeled down and kissed him gently on his forehead and he kindly said to him ‘Ya Thatlabah What is wrong?’ And Thatlabah anxiously replied ‘Oh messenger of Allah are you hiding it from me?’ the messenger said ‘what I’m I hiding from you?’ Thatlabah said ‘Allah has sent down a verse concerning me that I am one of the hypocrites, hasn’t he?’ the prophet (sallallahu alaiyhi wa sallam) looked at him and his tears where running down his cheeks, so he said to him ‘No, Ya Thatlabah Allah hasn’t sent anything in your cause’. In worried Thatlabah replied ‘I am going to be punished, Oh messenger of Allah’ the prophet (sallallahu alaiyhi wa sallam) said to him ‘Ya Thatlaba, What are you fearing? In tears Thatlabah said ‘I fear that Allah is going to place me in the lowest place of hell-fire, I did a great sin, O messenger of Allah.’ Then the prophet (sallallahu alaiyhi wa sallam) said to him ‘Are you fearing the anger of Allah?' He replied ‘Yes!’ the prophet carried on to say ‘a mumin also has another belief and that is hope. What do you hope for Thatlabah? What do you wish for? What do you yearn for?’ Thatlabah in hopefulness said ‘I hope for the mercy of Allah and for his forgiveness.’ And then the prophet (sallallahu alaiyhi wa sallam) said ‘then ask Allah for that you are hoping for, and make your exemption about Allah Good! You will find it.’ The prophet (sallallahu alaiyhi wa sallam) read on his head and made a dua for him. Then all of a sudden Thatlabah said ‘Oh messenger of Allah, I feel as though there are thousand of ants crawling on my body’ the prophet (sallallahu alaiyhi wa sallam) replied ‘can you really feel that Thatlabah’ he said ‘Yes! Oh messenger of Allah and I’m about to go unconscious’ swiftly the prophet (sallallahu alaiyhi wa sallam) said ‘it is death!it is come and now your dying Thatlabah, so say La illah illallah Muhammadiw Rasullah’ and then Thatlabah began to repeat those words, when finally his soul escaped his body. He was forgiven, but because he used the hope he had with Allah and he desired paradise so Allah forgave him. By Bilal Asaad |
